On Saturday (June 7, 2008 ) I took a quick ride on the motorcycle to Swan Falls Dam (about 30 miles from where I live). It was a nice long (and straight) shot into the desert. Swan Falls Dam is in the Snake River canyon. The newest part of the dam is to the left in this picture, and was commissioned in 1994 by Idaho Power Company. The area to the right was the old power generation plant, which was built around 1900. It’s on the national register of historic places, and a good place to visit. The smell of electrical generation was in the air and a lot of people have decided to make this their fishing hole. You can drive to the park and leave your car behind to go hiking, boating, fishing or picnicking. I decided to go for a little (3 mile) hike. There is a well used trail system which follows the contours of the canyon heading North-West. There are a LOT of ant-hills out there, so don’t stand still for too long. The water flows were not very impressive yesterday, so don’t expect to get misty while out there.
I took the Kawi out for this ride. I have a rubbermade box that I use for cargo. I was able to get my riding chaps and armored jacket in there. That would have been a pain to carry those things around. The only problem with it is incredible wind drag when at cruising speed between civilization and Swan Falls Dam. I need to devise some other way to lock my stuff up without having that big clunky box next time.
