Motorcycle Ride – Boise to Bogus Basin

At 6200 feet, it’s about as high up as you will get on the Boise Front.  This is the location of the area non-profit ski resort.  It’s a narrow and often very twisty ride to the top.  There are numerous switchbacks and double apex turns.  Watch out, there is also often sand on the road after rainfall.

Some new friends and I from the BoiseRiders.net club went on a quick ride this morning to Bogus Basin.  I tagged along because I really want more experience on tight turns on what is really not a busy street this time of year.  My experience was very rewarding, as Mike offered to run sweep this entire ride.  I took the corners easy, but still managed to lean enough to touch the rubber near the edges of the tires to the pavement (for the first time).  The pace was pretty relaxed on this ride, and Mike had plenty of advice for me.  It is terrific to have someone who will work with you to make you better at this sport.

Saturday, we are going on a ride to Idaho City, then on to Lowman.  It’s promised to be another relaxed newbie ride (which is what I need).  From what I am told, Bogus Basin was a much more technical ride, with constant shifting into left and right curves.  This is a good thing, as I am somewhat mentally tired after this morning’s ride.  I did the crumb trail on my GPS, so I look forward to going over my speed and apex data to see what it can tell me.

I have included a very short vid, so you can see what I saw at the top.  You can click on the Google map above to get any view you want.
